So I buy Spider-Man 2 on DVD right? So I waste a few days watching it and screwing around with the special features, and while the DVD was top notch, it just wasn't enough. I needed more Spider-Man. So you know what I did? I dug through my old video collection and pulled out my tapes of the 90s Spider-Man cartoon. I hadn't seen it in years, but had many fond memories of it. I was wondering if it would hold up like Batman: the Animated Series. The first episode to pop up was the Hobgoblin Part 1, and it passed with flying colors. I loved it in all of it's censored/Laser guns/Spidey never throwing a punch/Don't harm the pigeons glory. After that, I spent the entire weekend binging on what little episodes of this great series I had. Not only did this show bring back some welcome nastalgia, but I found my self actually happier than I've been in a long time.
Now I want more. I only had twenty episodes on tape. I could probably tape the rest off of Toon Disney, but I'd like to have these babies on DVD. I'm aware of the single discs that Disney put out on DVD, but I'd love to have them seasonally so I might just hold out and see if they wise up like WB did with Batman: TAS. I do already own Ultimate Villian Showdown (even though it's far from ultimate, and there is no showdown), but since there're no season DVDs in sight for Spidey so far, I'm debating whether to get the rest to hold me back until if/when that day comes, especially since the next to be released is called The Venom Saga (which I assume will include the Alien Costume Three Parter, which were my favorite episodes of the series).
Rant (or something similar, I can't tell) over. Go about your business.

Oh god, Ghostbusters. Now that's a show I'd like to see again. I haven't seen it in so long and the movie is easily the best movie ever!

I don't really understand why Buena Vista hasn't went the seasonal route with the 90's Spider-Man when there are so many signs that point to potential goldmine. Take into consideration that the single disc DVDs are doing well, otherwise they wouldn't be pumping them out. And then there are the complete series DVDs of other Spider-Man shows (the 60's series and the MTV one) which I heard were doing quite well themselves. And it wouldn't cost that much either...
Season 1: 13 episodes
Season 2: 14 episodes
Season 3: 14 episodes
Season 4: 11 episodes
Season 5: 13 episodes
Each set would only be two discs which means an easily affordable price range of $20-30 and you wouldn't have to stray away from the traditional plastic cases either. And the seasons pretty much named themselves, so you could have some fun by just marking the season number as a sidenote and call the sets Spider-Man: the Animated Series, Spider-Man: Neogenic Nightmare, Spider-Man: Sins of the Fathers, Spider-Man: Partners in Danger, Spider-Man: Six Forgotton Warriors/Secret Wars/Spider Wars.
Of course this is just what my dream sets would be. Fun to think about. But c'mon, the sixties and MTV ones got this treatment, give the best series something similar.

I don't get why they bother releasing singles of shows on DVD. How many people want that? I prefer seasonal DVD's, myself. :\
The 60's Spidey show is something I wouldn't mind having. It's such a joke but I grew up with it and it's a warm feeling whenever I watch it and see the cheeziness of Spidey web slinging off clouds in his ghetto costume. Ahh, memories.
The 90's show was the best, of course. Heck, even my friend's father loved it (and he's not a comic fan)
That MTV one was horrible. Lame stories and characters. No real continuity. The only thing I liked about it was the animation. Especially Spidey's.
Heh...does anyone remember them trying a new Spidey series after the end of the 90's one? "Spider-Man Unlimited" or something? :|

The very first episode of Spidey Unlimited was so cool though.

I have it on DVD somewhere. I DL them from Kazaa, not great quality... but not bad. Id really like to get it on proper DVD.

Awesome cartoon! I really need to get that on proper DVD too. The Kazaa versions just aint brilliant quality.

The stories werent the best but I agree. They gave Spidey the right speed. It was the first time Id seen him sprint as fast as he should be able to (considering the strength and speed he has and hence the power)

I saw one of that, the animation and art was awful. I saw Spidey and Carnage in a sewer somewhere. Didnt really catch much of it though.
I think they need to make a new Spidey series. With certain elements of 90's (stories and voices, villians), certain elements of the MTV one (animation and powers) and certain elements of the 60s and 80s one. (one liners and some of the early villians).
They still havent caught spidey quite right for my liking, although the 90s was the closest yet.

if they make a new Spidey cartoon that's based on the 90's one. He should have organic webbing. Mr Parker will be pleased.

I agree with pretty much everything said here. While I don't thing the MTV cartoon was horrible, it was a wasted opportunity.
They had an interesting animation look, and I couldn't stop staring at it. The human movements weren't that great (good god, what was wrong with MJ's hair?), but it was pretty neat to look at.
The voice talent was pretty good as well. I adored Lisa Loeb as MJ, and Neil Patrick Harris was pretty good as Spider-Man. His wiseass remarks aren't up to the quality delivery that Christopher Daniel Barnes did, but he was pretty good. The only problem I had was the guy who played Harry. His voice just didn't seem to match to me.
As far as the characters are concerned, I liked some of the stuff between Peter and MJ, but nothing much beyond that. The character of Indy was basicly a punk version of Gwen Stacy. If they wanted a Gwen Stacy for a love triangle, they should have used Gwen Stacy. I can't really see anyone, let alone Peter, that would fall for that. Then there's Harry's "story arch" (and I use the term loosly) about his hatred for Spider-Man. While it's interensting at first, his constant bitching in every fucking episode really ruined it, and by the end of the first season run, it just ended up nowhere. I hated what they did with some of the classic villians too. If you're going to keep the Kingpin in the black skin color he was in the Daredevil movie, at least try to keep continuity with that movie as well, otherwise it's completly pointless. And not only did he not seem like a powerful crime boss, he came off as some petty theif. Don't get me started on the whiney little bitch they tried to pass off as Electro. But still, Kraven rocked.
The problem I have with the stories are that they are so small key. Like a footnote in Spider-Man history. Why are they bothering on a loser like Turbo Jet if there are more interesting villians like Venom, the Hobgoblin, or even Harry's Green Goblin to be explored?
If some channel does pick it up in the future, I'll watch it just to see if they polish it up. It would be sad to see something with this much potential go to waste. Maybe with MTV off their backs they can actually do something better.

As interesting as that cgi animation was, I'd hate to see it used again, I liked it, but it got old... fast.

That would be kinda bad continuity if the series got picked up again if they didn't use it. Maybe not on other shows, but if the show comes back I can deal with it. Except for the constant eyepeice movements, that annoyed the shit out of me.

If anyone else wants these DVDs as badly as I do (and I'm more convinced than ever after watching Goblin War and Turning Point on Toon Disney this week), do what little you can by signing this petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/Spidey/) that www.spiderfan.org linked people too a while back.
I know petitions usually do jack, but it beats sitting around and doing nothing about it.
