Universal Pictures is in talks with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for a role in video game adaptation Doom, while Karl Urban ("The Lord of the Rings" movies, The Bourne Supremacy, The Chronicles of Riddick) has been cast as John Grimm, the leader of a special ops team.
When dealing with alien demons, Grimm is forced to cross paths with the organization responsible for his parents' deaths. In the game, the story is set at a Mars space station, where an aerospace conglom is conducting secret experiments when something unleashes a demonic force that threatens to overtake the facility.
The futuristic action-adventure, based on id Software's and Activision's "Doom 3" game, will be directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (Cradle 2 the Grave) and was written by Dave Callaham. Doom is scheduled to start principal photography in mid-October for an August 5, 2005 release date.
Johnson is also attached to star in director John Woo's adaptation of Midway Games' popular game, Spy-Hunter, for Universal.

well this sounds like interesting news. I wonder how badly Hollywood will screw this up like most (or all?) game-to-films.

And I'm too lazy to look for articles and link you all to it so I'll just fill you in on some quick bits in case you haven't heard 'em:
--they're going to make a live-action/CGI 'Alvin & the Chipmunks' movie
--a Bewitched movie starring the tasty Nicole Kidman and the not-so-tasty Will Ferrel is being filmed
--Tim Burton is making 'Charlie and the Chocolate factory' (sequel to Willi Wonka, I guess)
--an 'X-Files 2' is planned with Agent Doggett. And a possible return of Gillian Anderson (Scully) and David Duchovny (Mulder).
--George Lucas has Star Wars episodes 7, 8 and 9 planned out (according to Mark Hamill)
--'Basic Instinct 2' is a possibility with Sharon Stone reprising her role from the previous movie
--'Jurassic Park 4' script is nearly completed (yes, they ARE making a 4th one).
--A sequel to Underworld is in the works (the vampire/werewolf mirror of Romeo and Juliette starring Kate Bekingsale and some guy who isn't Kate Bekingsale)
Sorry for the lack of links, folks. I'm sure you can trust me on all this.
copy/paste from another board I go to since I'm too lazy to rewrite this all at the moment ;)
