I think we should abolish post count and add in a new system known as quality points:)

Amirius

what are quality points?

Movies205

Points awarded by the admin for good posts :)

Amirius

You'd still be behind me:p. Besides that would too much work for a lazy admin like Bry:p

I'd get 100 bonus quality points for coming up with the idea:)

vB3 has something like that. But I myself don't care for that feature. Bry?

The Admin has to do it? That's kind of silly..
I've always been undecided about removing post counts.. I think it's a good thing to know, and at the same time pretty useless.
I do like the rating system a bit, if the users can vote also.
Maybe post counts can stay but you can only see them in the persons profile or something like that.

I could do that now, if you'd like, Bry. Removing post count on the post bit (left column of threads) but keeping it in the profile.

vB3 allows users to give or take reputation points from fellow members.

And I agree on that part where the admins give or take the points. Imagine if they had that practise on Hype, Genmay or EnterNexus. Way too many members and very few administrators.

But a good suggestion nonetheless, TSA.

On SHH nobody would have a rating besides the mods.
That would be nice if you could move the posts to the profile, if it's not too much trouble.:)

Speaking of post counts, do you intentionally have yours say "error" SJB? And to be honest, I really don't agree with the whole posts only in the profile. I really can't say why, I just don't.

I only brings this up because you'd have to do it now when we don't have too many members, because at SHH! much spam derives from people wanting high post counts.

Honestly, I like the idea of Hiding post count, and instead showing quality points.

I intentionally have it as "error", yes.

I myself don't like either of them.

the post count does or doesn't have to be there. Quality points (i.e. vB3-style reputation points): I don't like one bit. Most vB3 boards I've gone to even have those disabled.

Maybe if the reputation points are something only seen from the profle as well?

why even have them?

how many regular members would even bother to vote on the other members they run into? I honestly doubt I would. Rep points are as relevant as post counts.

Movies205

Well it would give posters something to shoot for :(

Amirius

Sorry TSA but it doesn't look like this topic is going anywhere. Rep points are kind of a stupid idea anyway. SJB pretty much said everything on it that needed to be said.

eSJayBee

well at least he tried. I applaud TSA for the suggestion.

If only the admins awarded the points, it would be basically like putting yourself up for a trio of judges. Hey, a beauty contest!....If your fellow members gave/took from your total points, at least it would be on a fairer ground, imo. But still as relevant as post counts.

The members on most boards I've been to don't even seem to care about their post count whether it's showing or not (like Genmay or SomethingAwful). And this is coming from the guy who made his post count display on threads into error. The only board this post count importance has been such a case at was, in my experience, on good ol' superherohype.com. Not saying that's the only place on the net, mind you. Just that out of all the boards I'd gone to, Hype was the one this trivial post count was boasted about. Not counting the boards that actually DO put some importance into a member having a certain amount of posts for certain extras like access to certain things such as forums or requests and such. Like one board I go to makes you have to have at least 20 QUALITY posts to be able to make a request, etc. Basically, to show that you're a serious poster and not a leech who came for free requests.

The only reason I even care about posts here is because once I get 650, I can name myself a custom title. After that I won't care whether I can see my post count or not.

Shivure

Yea and that high count number is making me want to spam even though I shall be beaten for it later:(

Amirius
08-28-2004, 07:57 PM
What do you mean high count, they lowered it to 300. And besides thats what you get for not coming here on a regular basis:mad: :p

Captain Bryan
08-28-2004, 11:06 PM
If you posted once a day, you could have a custom title in less than a year.:)

Amirius
08-28-2004, 11:09 PM
He'll probably post more now anyway, so he can get his title before me;)

He gets annoyed easily, but there are very few people who he actually hates;). And I know for a fact he'll yell at me for saying that:p

He told me he hates me, the only reason he posts is because I have his teddy bear held hostage:)
