I go to the movies every single weekend like clockwork... I shall discuss the following movies at the weekend, including box office...
Movie seen this weekend, "Collateral" starring Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx, directed by Micheal Man.
The story in a nut-shell is a good natured taxi driver who sees being a taxi driver as a temporary job, picks up a man, that pays him to drive him around all night, well push come to shove, a man comes flying out of a 2 story building on to this poor guy's cab, and he comes to the horrid realization that he driving around a hit man.
First off let's get this out of the way it's a good movie but it could of been great. Tom Cruise and Jamie Fox both gave excellent performances, there chemistry was great. Also the comedic timing on some of the lines is spot on. What makes this movie good is that, it isn't cliche, it doesn't spend the whole movie where Jamie Fox is trying to contact the police. Don't get me wrong, he has his brave moments but he would do what any normal man would do in that situation. Some problems there are 2 cops that pick up on this, if you took these two cops out of the story, you could literally edit them out of hte film and you'd never notice. They don't end up going anywhere, and there useless to the plot. Another point is music, I prefer a musical score rather than popular music thrown in, espcially rock music. I'm into rock myself but it doesn't mesh well in films. Also there are some downtimes in this film where nothing happens. Though it's great because Jamie Fox character grows through the film, and as we learn more about vince we actually start to like him. I recommend going to see it...
Now box-office...

Collateral taking it is no surprise, but relatively compare to other number 1's in past week which have all gone 40 mil or higher, this isn't that much of a victory. Though this can be attributed to a couple of things, it's rated R. This isolate a big chunk of the summer theater goers, which is probably why AvP is rated PG-13. Also the style of the film is very different than most movies as you can blatantly tell by the trailer so it could of put people off. But the added star power I think got it to number 1. I don't think this movie would of done that well without the star power, but maybe the solid reviews would of carried it.
Village having a shameful %67.3, is pretty bad albeit not surprising. The village had so much hype surrounding it that it became a double edge sword. The hype gave it the abilitly to basically pass it's budget in one weekend but it set a standard so high for the movie that most people said it was terrible, and the WoM killed it this week.
Bourne Supremacy taking the third spot not too shabby, it'll probably continue to have good legs due to the loyal fanbase of BS, but IMO the movie is so-so, so I think due to AvP probably crappign out, it'll probably remain on the top 10 list for a little bit longer
Manchurian Canidate, here's a movie that just I think doom by it's own release date. THere were too many heavy hitters that weekend, it would of been smarter to release it this weekend against something like collateral, but then it would probably get crushed by AvP. I'm thinking this would of done better as a moving for the Fall, maybe mid Novemberish, we'll have to wait and see if it has good legs...
Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, NL was smart to add more theaters, this movie is a gem so I say keep pushing for a little while longer because I'm hoping that this grows some good legs.
