Saw it today...and while it wasn't quite an orgasmic experience, it was very good. Thomas Jane IS Frank Castle, and the rest of the cast is spot on too...especially his 'freakshow neighbors.'

I would have liked more action, but the movie is focuses mostly on Frank's avenging of his family. And he don't just KILL them, he ROYALLY f***s them over - you'll see what I mean!

The only downside was something sorta cheesy during the explosive final battle, but it's not that bad...

The most brutal moment is the killing of Frank's family. Think you;re a jaded fanboy like me? You;re in for a bit of a shock!

When you say something cheesy, are you talking about that Heck guy and his guitar? I heare he was a comic book character that lasted, oh, 1 millisecond in the comic.

No...I actually thought that was pretty cool. You're right about him in the comics - Frank is recounting how Harry out-drew 4 state troopers and dodged at shot from one of them. Then it has Frank emptying the clip of an uzi, thinking "Dodged a bullet - but not THIRTY."

You know, it's not really MUCH of a spoiler, so what the heck:

Frank sets off some explosives, then it cuts to a view from the air, and it's burning in the shape of a skull

End sorta-spoiler

I second the motion - it'd be much more reliable and easier than the method I used! :)

provided there's a regular-enough need for it, I probably will install it.

Anyway....hoping to see Punisher today.

I really liked Punisher. Its my fave Marvel Movie since DD. The plot was well executed, and the actors were on targer.

I liked the Punisher better when it starred Vin Diesel and was titled "A Man Apart"

It was okay for it's low-budget. I thought it tried too hard to come off as a gritty-Mafia movie and ended up looking like it was a cheap quickie job.

THe movie felt light and at the same time was gory.. It pulled back it's punches and ti didn't feel like a really movie, it was missing something... Sort of a like a cardboard cut out of the comics:(

it would have been great if it were a 2-part premiere for a Punisher TV series. As a big screen feature, it felt empty.

I did, however, love the extreme "kill his family" take they did in this film, though. A step or two up from the cliché ones where they off the spouse and child(ren) alone.

The Russian wasn't done that badly though he was far more quiet compared to his comic counterpart. Though that's just a minor nitpick. Doesn't really bother me.

It would have been sweet if this movie had done better. Too few comic-based movies call for so little special visual effects. People attribute visual extravaganza with comic movies now. Most of them even flop because studios concentrate a bit too hard on the visuals and not enough on the story (which is what made most of the comics so good in the first place to warrant the attention for a movie).

I know what you mean, SJB. Even look at Hulk. IMO, that was a rental, at best. Or a cheap buy. But it was disappointing.
