I've always prefered the Mario sports titles to the games based on the real sports lines [Mario Golf v. Tiger Woods Golf, for example]. Some of my faves are Tennis, Baseball, and Golf [not counting Go-Karting as a sport].
I know for a fact I'm not the only one who's played these, since Rock was over last night and we played Mario Baseball.
Kicked your ass at it, too. Good fights in SF3 and MvC2, though.
I haven't played Tennis or Golf. That's next on our game list, el gimpo negro.

Love the Mario sport games. I haven't been up to date on my video games though, I had no clue they did a baseball one.
I wonder how long it will be until Mario Hockey. I'd buy a Wii just for that.

Baseball hit August 05. Most recent I know of is Mario Strikers [Soccer]
...wait. I could have thwomped you at a soccer game? Damn it!
Hey, I do want to point out that it's not often I get a run for my money in any fighting game. You rock, man.

Thank you, good sir. Same here, for the most part. Joe doesn't count, cause he's a turtle.
Turtles are easier to defeat, especially in MvC2. But let me start another thread for our fighting.
Mario sports are hilariously fun.

Oh so true. The best thing is that you don't HAVE to be a fan of the sport in order to enjoy the Mario version. I hate Tennis and Golf, and am no big fan of dancing or Baseball, but I've done all but the dancing with Mario.

I noticed that in the early days, Mario sport games tended to be less popular sports, like Tennis and Golf. Yet everyone loved to play them.
Ah, the power of Mario.

Thought I'd bump this, seeing how I've just played Super Mario Strikers for the first time.
Best Mario Sport game EVER.
Maybe it's just the similarities between Soccer and my favorite sport, Hockey, but this was hella fun. And the one thing I enjoyed the most about it is the subtle difference between the other games of sportsmanship. In all previous Mario games, the characters mope when they lose, yet they keep things upbeat with a good sportsmanship feel. This is the first sport game I've seen where the characters give additude to one another and taunt each other. I found it absolutly hillarious.
My favorite: Daisy doing the "Hot Stuff" move by touching her ass. I never thought I'd see that in a Mario game.
I also played Baseball, but I suck pretty hard at it.

Rock would get Yang, I would get either Alex, or Ken. You'd go down faster than the prom queen.
Screw that. Me and Yang vs Smash... he'd go down faster than Paris Hilton with a handicam.

I thought I'd put in a word that I've just tried out the Strikers sequel, Charged, and it's fun, but it's leaving me mildly disappointed.
Some of the new additions are cool. I like how they gave the sidekicks their own special strike. I also like how you can use different characters in your group instead of just a bunch of one character (yet Birdo still sucks ass). And thankfully Bowser didn't send a bunch of crazy ass robots to do his dirty work this time around (how stupid were those clowns?).
However, I'm not too keen on the new megastrike move, which sends a bunch of balls at the opponant. I'm getting better at defending against it, but something about getting 6 goals at once feels just so wrong. I like the one goal at a time approach more.
I was also hoping for more scenes of additude that made me love the first game so much. A lot of it is just borrowed over from the first game (sorry, but I don't want to see Waluigi do a pelvic thrust, but thankfully Luigi got some new moves in). The openings are pretty lame and repetitive. It's just the away team doing a challenging motion then the hope captain skydiving into action. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't used every single time. It got boring about 3 games in.
But it's a pretty good game, it just doesn't addict me like the original did. So far it's one of the top 3 Wii games I own, along with Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Super Paper Mario.
And no, I don't own many...
1. Super Paper Mario ****
2. Marvel Ultimate Alliance *** 1/2
3. Mario Strikers Charged *** 1/2
4. Mortal Kombat: Armageddon ***
5. Rampage: Total Destruction ** 1/2
6. TMNT ** 1/2
7. Spider-Man 3 **
8. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix **
9. Wii Sports * 1/2
10. Transformers *
...I know...I need to lay off the movie based games...they're sucking the life out of my collection.
But somebody explain to me how the hell someone can screw up giant rampaging robots? HOW? That should have been a must own!

Super Paper Mario is one of the best games I've played in a long time.

Amen to that brother!
Best Mario game I've played since Super Mario World (not including Smash Bros).

Have you played New Super Mario Bros for the DS? All the fun of the 2D Mario, but updated JUST enough to rock. 2p mode rocks my legsocks off.

I don't even have a DS, I'm afraid. I stopped doing the handhelds at Advance.
