I like how people always refer to him by his first name (Saddam) like he's a loved celebrity. :|. I don't see articles saying "George" or "Donald" when talking about Bush and Rumsfeld.
I didn't realise countries with a civilised court system still used hanging as the death sentence.

I just like "Saddam" better than "Hussaine". Sounds like it could be a sitcom or something.

I'm rather confused by the hanging punishment as well. There are more "modernized" punishments like lethal injection or even the classic military firing squad. Hanging is so last century.

In the article posted above, it says Also, as to Saddam's demand that he be executed by firing squade, al-Mousaway said that "shooting violates Iraq's death penalty law.". I'm not sure what their death penalty law is, though. I guess a slow, painful death is better than something quick. Not that I'm defending Saddam.

It makes news about him sound friendlier...

Actually, if done right, a hanging is just about as quick as being shot. Nooses were designed to snap a person's neck as soon as the floor was taken out from under their feet, as opposed to what Hollywood does and have people hang there for a few minutes then die.
Now, whether they'll decide to do it right remains yet to be seen...
