I heard a rummor that the PSP has been Temporarily discontinued because of copyright infringement laws, has anyone else herd this because I bought mine the day it came out and if it's screwed now I'm gonna go hulk on fuckin' Sony:mad: :devil:

Sony ordered to stop selling PlayStation 2

Sony Corp.’s video game division (makers of the PlayStation 2) has been ordered to pay $90.7 million in damages to Immersion Corp., based in San Jose, California, over a patent infringement lawsuit in the United States.

In addition to paying damages Sony was also ordered to stop selling PlayStation 2’s and over 40 games. The company however, will fight the decision by federal district court in Oakland, California, and appeal to the U.S. High Court. In the mean time they will continue to tell the PlayStation 2 packaged with the Dual Shock controller (the center of attention in this case).

Sony denies that their Dual Shock controller violates Immersion’s patents. Previously in 2002, Immersion accused Sony of infringing on its patent for the Dual Shock which is sold with the PlayStation and Playstation 2.

This would be the second time Sony has lost a decision from this alleged infringement. In October of last year they were ordered to pay over $80 million in damages, but appealed and continued to sell their PlayStation 2 console packaged with Dual Shock.

Pfftt, PS2 won't be taken off the market. There are too many developers and publishers besides Sony who have a lot to lose if the system get yanked and they sure as shit aren't going to take it lying down.

And Shiv, do you really think Sony would can the PSP after only 3 days of being on the market;)

It's not going to get yanked. Immersion can fine Sony all they want, but if they try to get PS2s yanked, they're going to be outnumbered.

Yeah, I agree.
I'd like to see the patent in question, anyway.
The idea for two joysticks on a pad that rumbles can't be something that is patented.
If so I have lost all hope in the system of patents.
