Black Mesa: Source is a fully pledged Half-Life 2 modification founded by the LeakFree Source Engine Development Community and regulars at the HalfLife2.net Forums. We, the development team, are strongly determined to recreate Half-Life 1 on the Source Engine from the ground up, keeping the original's feel and storyline intact as much as possible, while making small changes to allow for a more flowing storyline from Half-Life 1 to Half-Life 2. Those involved want to have the project create the Black Mesa Research Facility the way it was meant to be seen, worked in, and fought over. We here wish to recompose the game that formed one of the largest gaming communities in the world.
Plotlines, scripted sequences, conceptual ideas, weapons, NPCs and other critical factors that made Half-Life 1 such a stunning game will be kept in and worked within the new engine. The same scenes and the same locations except with one critical change: graphical paradise. We plan to push the engine to the limits just as Half-Life 1 pushed its players to the limits. We intend to increase polycounts on models, weapons, enemies and other physics props. The facility will be built from the ground while taking special care not to disrupt the gameplay factors while "enlarging" the facility to give the player a sense that this facility really is under an invasion and is far larger then what meets the eye.
We are a team of gamers and fans of the original wanting it to the best it can be. Our development team presently consists of level designers, modelers, texture artists, conceptual artists, along with many other talented people. We know that we cannot please everyone because there are purists and there are changers: both on different sides of the track. If you have a suggestion drop us a line on our forums by stopping by our website and clicking on the 'Forum' link.
