The following is strictly RUMOR at this point. I shall be watching it closely to see if it gets debunked.

Smells like BS to me. Mostly with the way he phrases what the film will be. I hate to break it to ya', but if it focuses on Dutch's kid, then it's still technically a sequel and not a restart. A restart would be more along the lines of Batman Begins.

However with the success of AVP: Alien vs. Predator last year, I wouldn't be surprised if Fox is trying to get the Predator back on his feet. Getting McTiernan back would be a smart move, since the original was undisputedly the best of the three films, but I remember all the talk of Ridley Scott and James Cameron teaming up to do Alien 5, and that looks like it'll never happen.

I too wouldn't find it surprising that they'd want to get the Predator franchise up again after AvP. But why a restart? Unlike Batman which focused on one main character and his world, the Predator movies didn't. I mean it was Arny and some predator in the first movie, and Glover and some predator in the sequel. It didn't even take place in the same setting.

I agree with you. They could just make up a random predator story, starting over seems pointless...

Well, this latest piece of news (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=9456) all but confirms in my eyes, that that last story was just some fan's wet dream.

But I'd be wondering why they are considering this at all? The original wasn't really that well recieved. And the announcement of this right after the failure of xXx: State of the Union just makes this idea seem silly. I don't expect much out of this though. Freddy vs. Jason was supposed to get a sequel, but that's floating belly up.

"We will do another one of those for sure. It was a big success," Rothman said. "In the new Alien vs. Predator they will finally actually really come to our world."

What does this mean...?

And wasn't the first AvP movie not that much of a success?

It probably means the fight will spill out into civilization instead of being isolated in a pyramid. A city perhaps, like in Predator 2? Getting in some Godzilla action, maybe?

It made it's budget back domesticly. Add in how much it got world wide and DVD sales, yes, it was a pretty big success. Not to mention it was the second highest grossing of all seven films domesticly, and highest worldwide.
