Holy shit, this game rocks.
A lot of ass kicking going on in here. We got plenty of gunplay and even up close and personal fistfights and slashing. There's even a spot in the middle where you have to take on around four or five guys in a ring before you move on in the game.
Sneaking around is essential in this game, as well as taking the time to think out a few problems your facing. Hell, sometimes I just passed stages out of sheer dumb luck (the riot guard down in the mining core for example. I accidentally gave away my possition and he chased me, next thing I knew he got crushed by a giant crate).
One of my favorite parts of the game was using the darkness to my advantage. You can hide out and sneak up on your enemies if you have a good hiding spot. Most of the time I used my gun to take out the lights before I even took on the guards so I'd have the upper hand.
And for those of you who appreciated Pitch Black more than it's 2004 epic sequel, there are two treats in this game for you. First of all, Cole Hauser returns to his popular cult role of the merc William Johns from PB. This allows for us to see a lot of his backstory with Riddick. Remember the scar he showed Fry in PB (might have been director's cut only, I'm not sure)? We actually get to see it happen in EFBB. The second little treat is a certain stage where you've survived an elevator crash and are wondering around on the planet while it's dark. A bunch of aliens come out and kill the guards you are with and you have to fight your way through them. Pretty much the same basic plot of PB. What makes this extra neat is the cutscene before hand when Riddick watches the aliens kill a guard. He just stares at the scene and says "Beautiful..." (a nod to the scene in PB where the aliens fly out of hiding when darkness falls and Riddick says the same line).
And for those of you who like the whole Chronicles of Riddick mythology, EFBB definatly expands it. Most notably of which is Riddick's eyes. It turns out that the story he told Jack and Fry in Pitch Black about how he traded cigarettes for a shine job was a lie. He made it up because he never understood how he got them. Fair warning, if you haven't seen the director's cut of the Chronicles of Riddick, you'll be confused too.
The graphics are absolutly beautiful. I can't remember ever seeing graphics as smooth and convincing as these. But of course, I'm not as active a gamer as many are. I've probably missed out on a lot of the big name games that have graphics just as good.
The biggest complaint I have about the game are the glitches which I'm pretty sure have to do with me playing the game on PC. It's pretty much the opposite of a glitch I have with my Enter the Matrix game. In Matrix, sometimes it showed cutscenes but without sound. In Riddick, sometimes I can hear the cutscenes, but can't see them. Instead I get a first person POV from Riddick, who can't move at the time. Another glitch is that the audio isn't always in sync with the visuals. Sometimes it's a second ahead of itself. It can get annoying but luckily the rest of the game plays fine.
If you haven't played this game yet, give it a shot. It's well worth it. If you love Riddick as much as I do, buy it now. You won't be sorry.
